Mrs. Applebee English Class
Mrs. Applebee: "Everyone open your books to page 154!"
Everyone moans. Tommy Oliver opens his white bookbag for his book. He nudges his best friend Shayla Curry.
Tommy: "Shayla can I look on with you, I forgot my book."
Shayla: (sarcastically) "So what else is new. C'mon."
Tommy: "What's wrong with you. Look, if you don't want me to look on with you I won't."
Shayla: "No, it's not that, it's, here read this."
Shayla hands Tommy an envelope. He takes it and opens it. He then takes out a letter and begins to read it.
'Dear Shayla,
I know it seems that lately I haven't been spending time with you and there is a good reason for that. I fell in love with someone else. I didn't mean for it to happen it just did. I know I've been acting like I don't want to come to your meets, or competitions or even out with just the two of us. If you must know who it is, it's Claire Davidson. Before I close this letter, I want you know that Claire wasn't the only girl. I dated other girls without you knowing it. Even though I've done this to you and I know that now is too late for us to rekindle something but I hope that we can still be friends.
Randy'
Tommy finished the letter and hands it back to his best friend. He saw the sad expression on her face.
Tommy: "Are you all right?"
Shayla: "Yeah, but I can't believe that he didn't have the courtesy to tell me in person. I just got a stupid letter."
Tommy: "Well as the saying goes.."
Shayla: "Don't you dare say that 'There are other fish in the sea'"
Tommy laughs.
Mrs. Applebee: "Mr. Oliver and Ms. Curry, would you like to tell the class your joke.
Tommy and Shayla: "No Mrs. Applebee."
Mrs. Applebee: "Well then I advise you to read the story."
It's the end of the school day and word spread to the other rangers about Shayla's letter.
Aisha: "Can you believe that he did that, girl?"
Tanya: "I can't believe that he dumped her and told her that he messed around behind her back, what a dog."
Kat: "I hope Shayla's all right. She must be hurting very badly."
Aisha: "I know what'll we do, all of us girls can sleep at my house Friday and have a 'trash your ex-party'. It'll be great for Shayla to get out all that hostility out and plus we can gossip about Claire and the other trash from here to Stone Canyon."
Kat: "Aisha that's kind of harsh, but I think it's a good idea."
Aisha: "Good I'll tell Trini and Kim, Tanya you tell Lisa and Kat you tell Shayla about the party."
Tanya: "This party is gonna be fun."
Ernie's Juice Bar and Gym
Boy's Locker Room
Jason, Billy and Rocky listened to Tommy as he told them about Randy and Shayla. All are awe struck, until Zack and Adam enters.
Rocky: "Did you here about Shayla?"
Adam: "Yeah, we were at P.E. and we heard Randy boast about how he.."
Zack: "'Banged every chick in Stone Canyon and how he dumped Shayla."
Billy: "The worse part about is that he sent her a 'Dear John Letter'. That is as low as you can go to end a relationship."
Rocky: "Actually, the lowest you can go is by getting married, having kids, say you're going to the store, don't come back, and two weeks later, the divorce lawyer calls you and tell you that your marriage is over and during the divorce proceeding, he's planning his next marriage to some plastic surgeon's creation."
Everyone looked at Rocky a little puzzled, except for Adam. He knew Rocky was talking about his own father. 'What a coward. Just like Randy' Adam thought to himself.
Jason: "That's pretty low. But can we get back on the subject before all this came up."
Tommy: "Yeah, so what are you guys gonna do for Valentine's?"
Billy: "Don't know yet, why don't we all go out for dinner or something?"
Adam: "Not a bad idea."
Jason: (going through is bookbag) "Have you seen George, I have his Chemistry book?"
Billy: (looking at the book that says Calculus) "He's helping Ernie in the store room."
Jason: "Thanks, be right back."
Jason exits leaving Billy puzzled. They follow Jason into the Bar area and proceed to their destination. Meanwhile, Shayla and Kim are practicing on the balance beam.
Shayla: "C'mon Kim, get your leg straight."
Kim: "Stop avoiding the question, do you want to come to the sleep over?"
Shayla: "Kim, I don't feel like it, alright. I told Kat no and my answer is not going to change."
Kim: "It'll be great, get all that frustration out and pig out. (losing her balance) YIKES!!"
Shayla: (rolling her eyes) "All right if it makes you happy."
Voice: "Then way the hell are you so sad."
Shayla and Kim turn around to find Aisha behind them.
Kim: "Well if it isn't Sheryl Crow."
Aisha: (laughing) "Is she coming?"
Shayla: "Yes, I am and no funny business all right."
Kim and Aisha: "Scouts honor."
The girls laugh. A delivery man enters the establishment carrying a box. He walks over to the counter and ask Ernie for a person. Ernie points in the direction, and the man heads in it.
Delivery Man: "I have a delivery for S. Curry?"
Shayla: "That's me."
Delivery Man: "Here you go and sign here."
Shayla: (signing the form) "Thank you."
Delivery Man: "You're welcome."
The man leaves. The girls go over to the table and Shayla opens the box."
Aisha: "Oh my, these roses are beautiful. Who are they from?"
Shayla finds the card and reads it out loud.
Shayla: " 'We've known each other for a while and it's taking me this long to tell you I like you. Secret Admirer' "
Aisha: "How romantic a secret admirer."
Kim: "Does the handwriting look familiar?"
Shayla: "It's typed. This is weird, I've been getting notes in my locker, candy, and roses in every color for almost a month."
Kim: "I wish Tommy would have done something like this for me."
Shayla: "Face it Kim, Tommy's idea of being romantic is taking a date to a karate match."
Aisha: "Rocky's worse."
The girls laugh.
Friday, AG High School, Lockers
Aisha runs up to her friends with some news.
Aisha: "Hey you guys, the party's canceled."
Kat: "What happened?"
Aisha: "My dad's sick."
Trini: "We can have it at my house."
Shayla: "I won't be able to make it anyway."
Kat: "Why not?"
Shayla: "Gino's niece is getting married and he as to make this big Italian feast, so I gotta help him with it."
Trini: "Does this mean it's canceled?"
Shayla: (looking into the faces of her friends and sighing) "No, go ahead and have it. I guess I'll try to make it."
Aisha: "Great!!" (reaching into Shayla's locker) "What's this?"
Aisha takes out a letter with a rose taped to it.
Kat: "Another one, Shayla."
Kat takes the item from Aisha and reads the note.
Kat: " 'All will be reveled in time but here's a rose to keep you wondering.' "
Shayla: "I hope no ones stalking me."
Trini: "Let's hope it's not a trick from Rita."
Aisha: "No kidding."
As the girls talk, Jason, is going through his locker. He notices the letter and flower the girls are passing around. He closes his locker and begins to walk away.
Jason: "Hey girls."
Girls: "Hey Jason."
Jason: "You guys look like you belong in some teen soap oprea."
Aisha: "Ha, Ha, very funny."
Jason: (with a laugh) "Hi Shayla."
Shayla: "Hey Jase."
Trini: "I think Jason likes you."
Shayla: "I doubt it, he thinks I'm just one of the guys and plus he told me he likes Jenny Dawson."
Kat: "Duh, who doesn't. She has the biggest "assets" ( motioning to her chest) in the whole school. I bet it is Jason who is giving you all this stuff."
Aisha: "It's a possibility. C'mon Shayla, think romantically."
Shayla: (closing her locker) "If you're done playing who likes who, can we get to class?"
The girls go to their respective classes.
Boys' Gym.
Tommy: "I got everything set for V-Day. We all go out to eat, then we can spend the weekend in my uncle's cabin."
Jason: "Nice."
Tommy: "We'll tell the girls at Ernie's and viola."
Billy: "Real smooth Oliver, so in other words, you and Kim under the moon and stars, kissing and gazing into each others eyes."
Rocky and Zack begin to act out.
Rocky: (in a girl's voice) "I love you Tommy Oliver."
Zack: "I love you Kimberly Hart."
Rocky: "I love you more."
Zack: "I love you most."
Rocky: "Kiss me you fool."
The two boys pretend to hug and kiss, then they laugh.
Tommy: (throwing a towel at them) "Very funny."
Tommy, Rocky, and Zack get up leaving Jason and Billy.
Billy: "Jase, can I ask you a question?"
Jason: "Sure."
Billy: "Did you go in Shayla's locker?"
Jason: "Yeah, I had to get our project out of there for Mr. Radbury's class, why you ask?"
Billy: "I saw you run from that hallway and when I went by her locker was open."
Jason: "I forgot to close it. Hope nobody stole anything. I've must be hanging around Tommy to long."
Billy: "Perish the thought."
The two boys laugh.
Valentine's Day
The gang has just pulled up to the cabin. Everyone files out the car and stretch.
Kim: "My legs hurt."
Kat: "Mine too."
Chad: "Maybe I can give you a massage later."
Kat: "I'd love that."
The two kiss.
Shayla: "I think I'm gonna puke."
Jason: (laughing) "Me too."
Rocky: "Look at that mountain. Want to climb it later."
Shayla: "Count me out. I've done nothing but gymnastics, martial arts, and sports at school, and I'm tired."
Rocky: "It's your loss."
Rocky heads towards the cabin.
Jason: "Shayla can I talk to you?"
Shayla: "Yeah, what is it Jase?"
Jason: "I wanted to tell you that.."
Tommy: "Shayla, come look at this."
Shayla: "Could we talk later Jason."
Jason: "Sure."
Shayla walks over to Tommy.
Shayla: "What is it?"
Tommy: "Look at this."
Tommy points down to sidewalk where there are tiny handprints embedded in the cement. Underneath, are the names of the two friends are written.
Shayla: "Oh my. I can't believe this. How old were we?"
Tommy: "I don't know. I think five. I forgot all about it."
Shayla: (walking away, smiling) "What else is new?"
Tommy: (walking away also) "Ha, Ha, Ha."
The two friends head inside the cabin. Tommy walks over to Kim.
Kim: "What were you two looking at."
Tommy: "Our handprints."
Kim: "What?"
Tommy: "When we were little, Shayla and I used to come up here with my uncle and his family."
Kim: "How cute."
In the kitchen.
Shayla and Rocky are at the refrigerator.
Rocky: "Tommy's uncle knows how to pack good food in the house."
Shayla: "Do you see the mayo?"
Rocky: "Behind the milk."
Shayla gets the mayo and goes to the counter. Jason walks in.
Jason: "What are you two up too?"
Rocky: (with something in his mouth) "Food." (spitting it out) "I'm starving."
Jason: "Rocky, you ate two hamburgers, fries, three tacos and had a big orange soda on the way over here."
Rocky: "I know. Riding takes a lot out of me."
Jason: (shaking his head) "Shayla I was trying to ask you earlier.."
Shayla: "Yeah."
Jason: "If you would be my partner in the tournament."
Shayla: "You mean the Quincy Tournament of Champions."
Jason: "Yeah, I asked Tommy and Rocky but they already have partners."
Shayla: "Sure why not. I was gonna do it but I didn't have one either."
Jason: "Great, let's practice later."
Shayla: "Ok."
Jason leaves. Rocky makes his sandwich and leaves the kitchen after Jason.
Rocky: "Jase, can we talk."
Jason: "What about?"
Rocky: "You know."
Jason: "In the bathroom."
The two boys go into bathroom.
That night.
Kim: "That was a great dinner you guys."
Kat: "What ever did you guys get the idea."
Billy: "It's secret."
Tommy: "C'mon that's not all. We gotta work this food off."
Tanya: "What are you talking about."
Tommy: "I'm talking about walking under the moon in the crisp country air."
Shayla: "Tommy are feeling ok?"
Tommy: "Yeah. "
Shayla: "Are you sure?"
Tommy: "C'mon, Kim."
Tommy and Kim goes outside. During the night each couple goes outside, the
only people left in the cabin are Jason and Shayla.
Shayla: (getting up) "Do you want to practice for the tournament?"
Jason: (grabbing her wrist) "I have a confession to make."
Shayla: "What is it?"
Jason: "You know those notes and gifts you've been receiving."
Shayla: "Yeah, what about it?"
Jason: "I know who left them."
Shayla: "Who."
Jason: "W-well, um, you see, um. Oh boy."
Shayla: "Spit it out for crying out loud."
Jason: "I-it w-was m-m-m-me."
Shayla: "You."
Jason: "Yeah, I was afraid of telling you because you were with Randy."
Shayla: "Well, I not with him now."
Jason: (taking her hand) "I was wondering since it is Valentine's could I.."
Shayla: (flirting) "What. C'mon tell me."
Jason: "Could I kiss you?"
Shayla: (still flirting) "Normally if you were some total stranger, I wouldn't
but since I know you and think you're kinda cute, I guess so."
The two friends lean closer to each other and begin to kiss.
Shayla and Jason: "Wow."
Shayla: "I know what Kim was talking about now."
Jason: "Fireworks."
Shayla: "Yeah."
The two laugh.
Jason: "Want to join the others outside?"
Shayla: "Why not."
The two walk outside hand in hand. Rocky runs up to Jason.
Rocky: (with his signature grin) "You told her?"
Shayla: "You knew and didn't say anything about it?"
Rocky: "I wanted to tell someone but, Jase said if I did, he'll tell Ernie to
ban me from the Juice Bar."
Shayla laughs. Rocky is dragged away by Aisha. Shayla and Jason begin to kiss
each other.
Tommy: (yelling) "If you two are done, want join us on our walk?"
Jason: (to Shayla) "Ready?"
Shayla: "I'm ready for anything now."
