Author's Notes: This song was absolutely perfect for Mike and Maya's relationship, as much as it is anyway. ^_^ Hope you think so too. This is mostly a compilation of scenes from different times just before PRLG, to just after the beginning of the second season. Lots of thanks to Cynthia for all her help.
A waterfall of chestnut colored curls, falling just to the waist.
Brown pools that he
could just look into forever. That beautiful smile; he knew it was
meant only for him. She
giggles and begins running off. He reaches out, only to grasp the air.
Her voice calls out to him
playfully, "Come and catch me!" He looks down to find that the ground
is now yellow. A road
forms; he knows it will lead him to her. He hears her laughter and
smiles. He follows the
running spirit...... his.....angel in yellow. Finally, he catches up
with her, and takes her into his
arms. Turning around, she smiles at him once again. "You finally
found me," she whispers. He
can feel her hand on his face. Their eyes lock, and their faces draw
closer......
Mike Corbett awoke with a start, sitting straight up in his bed. His first thought was of the images he had just seen in his mind. The dream. A dream that had felt so real, that he could almost feel the girl's hand upon his cheek; the warmth of her lips........ And her face, it was one that he could remember in excruciating detail. That was no surprise though, for he had seen that face so many times, in so many dreams. Each time she called out to him, and in dream, he became closer. Who was she? This girl..... this dream angel? He had no other name for her. Was he ever going to meet her, or was she only a figment of his imagination?
He had once tried telling Leo about her; all the thoughts, feelings and images that surrounded her. His brother had laughed at the time, telling him that he was crazy. "Come on Mike, a dream girl? I mean, I know you haven't dated in awhile. But really......" Mike had laughed with him at the time, thinking that Leo was right. He was crazy to be thinking about this girl so much. After all, he couldn't be.....falling for her..... could he?
But the dreams had continued. And every night, he came one step
closer to being with her.
Mike couldn't believe it. It was her, it was really her. His angel in yellow, made very real. Long brown hair, beautiful brown eyes..... everything an exact replica, except for the smile. At that moment, her face, her voice, both were full of worry. He had a sudden urge to wipe all of that away, if just to see her smile once. He knew that he would've done anything then to see her happy. She was looking at him, he noticed. Was there any sign of recognition? Mike, deep in his heart, hoped so.
She was asking for their help. To go through the portal that she
had just come through, and
help fight off an attack by a group of hostile aliens. He looked at
the portal, swirling in the air.
Then, into the eyes that had haunted his dreams for so long. There was
only one thing for him to
say, only one thing for him to do. He would go with her, to help save
her people. The others
thought him crazy, he knew that. But he would've gone with her to hell
and back.
Maya! How he wanted to be able to say her name. But he couldn't, not while he was stuck inside this body. A body, no a soul, that was so full of anger, hate, and vengeance. To only be able to look upon the world but do nothing...... He couldn't make any sort of contact with the Rangers, to let Leo know that he was alive, and to be able to be with her. Maya. The Yellow Ranger. His angel. He knew so little, yet so much about her. Her spirit, her kindness, her love for life.
"You need their help," Mike's voice was a constant reminder to the Magna Defender of the son he was trying to avenge. "And killing innocents is no way to do so."
"What do you know of it?" the warrior would ask angrily.
"I know what it is like to not be able to be with your loved
ones."
He had sacrificed himself for them, for the colony. All the hate, anger, and vengeance had been finally taken away. Maya could only look on as Kendrix spoke to Alpha. Were you there Mike? Were you truly a part of the Magna Defender's spirit? The Yellow Ranger hoped so.
Her face had been the first sight to greet his eyes when he had
awakened. Mike had tried to
reach out to it, only to find it a mirage. He realized then what had
happened; the Magna Defender
had released him. He could hear a voice upon the winds..... Thank
you. Through the
thick dust he began to walk. He wasn't sure where he was going, but he
knew he was being
drawn somewhere. Then, through the clouds of sand, he saw her..... His
angel in yellow. Maya.
Maya found Mike standing by the windows of her quarters. The others, having finished dinner, had just left on their own errands. The Yellow Ranger looked out at the stars flying past. So many of those lights representing the distant planets that they already traveled to. It was an experience that she would never have had, had it not been for the man standing before her.
She put a hand upon his shoulder, "It's pretty out there, isn't it? All those stars against that black backdrop."
"Yeah," he nodded, almost absentmindedly, "Yeah, it is nice."
Maya looked up at him curiously, "What are you thinking about?"
"Actually, remembering," he replied, "I've been having these...... dreams for a long time. They were about this girl."
"Oh?" Maya tried to keep the disappointment out of her voice.
"Yeah," Mike turned to look at her, "I called her, my dream angel."
There was something in his eyes that moment that made her heart
suddenly skip a beat. Their
eyes locked; she couldn't look away, not that she really wanted to.
And as if on it's own, her
hand reached up to touch his face. He closed his eyes at her soft
touch, drawing his own hand
next to her's. No words were said as their faces drew closer, lips
meeting in a sweet kiss.
When they pulled apart, he looked at her and smiled. "Would you like to know what I call my dream angel now?" She smiled and nodded.
"My love, Maya."
