Tanya found herself in a world she never knew. Stars shone brightly
above her head and she stood on fluffy marshmellow-like clouds. A moon
glittered in the clear black night sky. She was wearing her yellow zeo
suit but without the helmet. Out of all of this, the most amazing was that
she was standing only about five feet away from Adam. He was in his zeo
suit too just standing there looking so calm as if he knew where they were.
Tanya just stood there too but she was worried. Where are we?What is going
on?Suddenly Tanya grew scared. What was going on?
"Tanya," Adam said, his voice an echo, "I am sorry. I like
Liz now, not you. She is better than you and always will be." With
that he faded into the night air, leaving Tanya alone.
"Adam please no! I still love you! We can work things out, I know
it! Please!" Tanya dropped to her knees sobbing uncontrollably.
Tanya woke up with a jerk and sighed with relief as she found herself in
her bedroom. Sweating all over, she quickly considered what to do. She
could go on like this had never happened or she could... She quickly picked
up her phone and dialed Adam's private phone number. She had to tell him
how she felt. She had to get this jealousy out of her system. If she didn't
who knows what could happen.
"Hello?"
"Adam it's me, Tanya."
"Tanya!" Adam looked groggly at his alarm clock. It was three
A.M. "Tanya is this important?"
"Yes it is."
Adam sighed, sat up, and turned on his book lamp. "All right what's
up?"
"I just had the worst nightmare."
"About what?"
"Us." Tanya heared a silence at the other end of the phone. "Adam
are you still there?"
"Yeah." Adam paused again. "What do you mean about us?"
"It's about us. Remember how you said you thought we were incompatable.
"
"Yes." Adam got worried. What is she getting at? He swallowed
hard. This conversation wasn't going to be a good one.
"Well I think we are. What I'm trying to say is that I still like
you. I really do. I know you like Liz. I... I guess I should say I'm jealous
of Liz."
"Tanya I had no idea you felt this way. Why didn't you tell me before?"
"I was afraid I'd make things worse. I am so sorry Adam."
"Hey, it isn't your fault."
"I know but when Liz hurt herself on the vacation I felt so bad. Like
I had willed her to get hurt."
"But you didn't. Tanya I like you too but only as a friend."
"Why?"
"Why what?"
"Why just as a friend? What went wrong between us?"
"I don't know. I guess we just don't belong together. That isn't my
fault or yours. We can't help it if we aren't meant for one another."
"I know. But I just can't help seeing your face in my dreams."
Adam blushed and thanked the stars that they weren't talking in person.
"We have to base our relationship on more than looks. I mean, hey,
you're cute too."
This time Tanya blushed and gave herself a half smile. "Really?"
"Really."
"Thanks for understanding."
"No problem."
Tanya hung up the phone. Adam was right. Someday she would find the person
she belonged with. She turned out the light and began to think. Should
I tell Liz about this? It concerens her too. "Nah," she whispered,
and fell asleep.
