Whatever You Say
by Karma

You think I'm always makin'
Something out of nothin'
You're sayin' every things okay
You've always got an answer
Before I ask the question
Whatever you say

_I can't believe this is happening._ Tommy Oliver thought, staring across the table at Katherine Hillard. _I don't think I can take anymore heart break._

"I really am sorry, Tommy, but I can't live like this any longer." Kat said, her eyes burning with tears.

"Like what?" Tommy asked, his eyes down cast.

"I can't be put on the second burner any longer..."

"What are you talking about?" Tommy asked, looking at her in surprise.

"It's hard for me to say this to your face, but I don't think you're in love with me..."

"But I am!"

"No....I think you love Kim too much to go into another relationship right now."

Now we can change the subject
Pretend I never brought it up
Same old story anyway
Later we can work it out
Right now you're talked out
Yeah, whatever you say

"Kat! I don't love Kim anymore!" Tommy said, his voice shaking. He could say anything, but he knew what was going to come.

"I think we should break up." Kat said simply.

"Why..." Tommy croaked out, his eyes filling with tears.

Oh I know you can hear me
But I'm not sure you're listening
I hear hear what you're sayin'
But still there's something missin'
Whether I go whether I stay
Right now depends on
Whatever you say

"I really am sorry, Tommy." Kat told him. _I hope I am doing the right thing,_ she thought miserably.

"Are you sure?" he asked again.

Kat nodded, standing up, she kissed his cheek and left.

"Bye Kat.."

You say you need me
And no you wouldn't leave me
And that should be enough to make me stay
And even though I want to
I don't hear I love you
In whatever you say

Kat walked out of the South Side Café and onto the street. With a backwards glance at the café, she headed to her apartment.

_I can't believe I did that..But it needed to be done. I can't live on the back burner any longer. We never go out...He's never, EVER, said I love you...The spark just isn't there right now._

Oh I know you can hear me
But I'm not sure you're listening
I hear hear what you're sayin'
But still there's something missin'
Whether I go whether I stay
Right now depends on
Whatever you say

The next day, Kat stood in her room, packing a duffel bag. She was heading to London in a few minutes. Her dance scholarship would be starting in two days and she was trying to muster up enthusiasm.

Briiing! Briiing!

"Hello?" Kat asked picking up her phone.

"Kat, it's Tommy."

"Hi." Kat whispered.

"I wanted to ask if I could take you to the airport. Can I...?"

"If you'd like." Kat said softly.

"I would. I'll be there in five minutes."

Five minutes later, the broken doorbell chimed lightly. _ I'll need to tell Mrs.Seamer about that._ Kat thought.

"Kat?" Tommy's voice asked hesitantly.

"I'm here." Kat said. She grabbed the pink duffel bag and left the apartment.

"You look very pretty." Tommy told her. Kat looked down at her worn, ripped jean shorts and faded pink tank top.

"Thanks." she said with a slight blush.

They got into Tommy's 4x4 silently.

Tommy finally broke the silence as they neared the airport. "Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"Can you tell me why you broke up with me?"

Kat sighed. "It's nothing you did, really...But you can' tell me you can jump right from a three year old relationship without loving Kim still...It's been only three months...Not enough time for you to say, "Kat I love you, and I really and truly am over Kimberly.'"

Tommy nodded, his shining with tears as he nodded over what she said. "I know...But I do care for you, Kat."

"I know..And I'll wait for you when you are ready for a relationship. Give me a call when you think you're ready." Kat said softly. She stepped out of the red truck and gave Tommy a wave. "I'll call you when I get to my hotel." Kat promised.

"One last kiss?"

Kat nodded and pressed her mouth to his.

"Good bye Tommy."

"Bye Kat."

Oh Whether I go whether I stay
Right now depends on
Whatever you say

"Good bye." Tommy whispered as he watched her head into the airport. "I'll look you up...But will you be there when I _am_ ready?"
