After recieving a very disturbing letter from Zordon and having a terrible fight with my dear friend Kim, I had decided that I needed Emily's help to carry out my mission...
"...you see, I'm, well I was, a Power Ranger," I struggled.
"I know, I've known since that day you saved me at the beach. I fell in love with you that day, and decided that if you didn't want to talk about it, I wouldn't bring it up," Emily explained.
Obviously, I was stunned. "Um, you knew?"
"Sure," she continued, "but why are you telling me now?"
"Well our leader, the leader of the Rangers is leaving Earth to go to his home on the planet Eltar. He asked me to sort of look after things while he was gone," I said, "and I need someone to help me."
"You know you can count on me Jase!" she exclaimed like a child, "When do I start, what do I do.
"I've thought about it, and, I think the best thing is for you to go back to Angel Grove, to watch what's going on and tell me about it until I can come and join you."
"What's in A.G. that needs whatchin'?"
"The other Rangers. My leader, Zordon, was worried that they couldn't handle the threats that face them, that's why I, ..err..we, need to watch them and help them if they need it," I revealed.
"Well can't you just go back and say, 'hey guys I'm here to get your backs'?" Emily queried.
"No, I don't want them to know we're doing this. We've gotta be completely secretive, not a word." Then I joked, "You can keep a secret can't you?"
Emily just smiled and shook her head.
So, the plan was set, Emily had a flight booked and I began to tie up some loose ends here. I decided to call Tommy and see how things were going.
"Hello?" came the voice of a kid through the phone.
"Is this the race track?" I asked.
"Yeah I'm Justin, I get to answer the phone today!"
"Well, cool," I said sarcastically, "Is Tommy there?"
"Yeah, hold on....hey Tommy..."
C'mon, not in my ear, please! Anyway I waited about 45 seconds then that familiar voice came through the phone, "Tommy here."
"Hey, bro, how's it goin'?"
"Hey, Jason, how ya doin'?"
"Great how's life in A.G.?"
"Pretty good," he paused,"This race track/mechanic job is great."
"Fight any monsters lately?" I asked with a chuckle.
"Yeah, and they've been pretty mean too, but we took'em down," he said with pride, "How's Florida, by the way?"
"It's nice, it's not home, but it's nice."
"So when are you comming back?" He seemed genuinely interested.
"It won't be too long, I've still got some things to do here, but Emily's coming back the end of this week."
"Oh, Emily," he began with a smile I could hear in his voice, "how are you two lovebirds?"
"Great, really great. You and Kat?"
"Honestly, I don't know, we've kinda grown apart. She's working so hard on her teaching assistant job and her ballet, and I've got so much to do here. Actually, I think I've seen more of her in battles than any other time lately," Tommy relayed, with a touch of sadness.
"Hey, cheer up, it's just a phase, you two were meant for each other." I tried to console him, but I knew it wouldn't help. After Kim left, Tommy developed this sort of victim complex about his love life. First he wouldn't see anyone, then he had to wait 'till Kat almost begged to go out, and now he's letting her get away because she isn't throwing herself at him daily. "Well, the four of us will have to go out sometime after I get back."
"Yeah, that'd be great," He sounded a little happier.
"Well, I gotta go, just wanted to say hi."
"Yeah, I...," he was suddenly distracted, "No! Justin don't do... I've gotta run, see you latter." Tommy obviously had a little blue monster to fight.
A few days had passed and Emily had returned to Angel Grove, She called and told me what had happened in the first two days she was back.
"...So, I went to the juice bar and there was this sign that said 'Under New Management'. Then Adam walked by, I asked him what was up.
"Oh, you didn't know? Ernie had to go build a bridge in the Amazon."
So I asked why.
"I guess its like the guy who climbs mountains, they're building a bridge because there's a river there." Adam's, actually, was the best explanation I heard about this.
Anyway, I found out that Lt. Stone owns the 'bar now and decided to ask him for a job. It's funny, he had these two monkey's that act just like Bulk and Skull, who I haven't seen anywhere since I've been back. One of the monkey's even gives me that same look Skull used to, like it was undressing me with it's eyes, gross!
Well, Jerome was happy to hire me and I began working there yesterday, Saturday.
On that other subject, I think your friend was right. The city was attacked by an Egyptian monster yesterday, not even a very scary one. And the Rangers seemed to have some problems.
As far as your friends here. Tommy is almost never around. Tanya seems awfuly quiet, but work for a radio station. Adam has taken your old spot as the king of karate here in the gym and juice bar. Kat's been eating a lot. And that kid hang's around which ever one of the others will pay attention to him."
After Emily told me all of this I was about to say goodbye and hang up when she exclaimed, "Oh my God! Quick, turn on the t.v. to the news!"
I did and saw the most horrible looking monster, It was that horrible, disgusting, thing...Divatox. "People of Earth, I am broadcasting on all chanels to inform you that this pathetic planet is now mine. Don't bother wishing for your pathetic Power Rangers to help you, because they're going to help me. Ha, ha, ha, I love it when a plan comes together. Elgar, end transmission!"
The image stayed on the screen for a few moments then, "Push the red button, you idiot!" Finally the image disappeared.
Emily asked, "Do you think this is what Zordon wanted you to get ready for?"
"I'm afraid so. Stay low, watch what goes on. I'm on the next plane out." I tried to reassure her, but I needed some reassurance. I was going back to Angel Grove, as a back-up in case my friends failed to stop an enemy Zordon didn't think they could handle. I, without powers, without Zordon, without the other Rangers, without even Alpha. This is going to be a long flight...
