Legal Disclaimer: Yes, I'm back. :) I'm going happily nuts with all these disclaimers and things. Jason, Emily, and anyone else in here are property of Saban. The song belongs to Paula Abdul. I know this is short, but I heard the song, and the images just formed in my head. It's short and has no real plot. ..but it's all mine. :)
Will You Marry Me?
by Cynthia
Jason was worried. What did Emily want to talk about? Why had she called him over to her apartment? They had been dating for over five years now, she couldn't possibly want to break up, could she? A chill ran down his spine at the very thought. He'd never felt about anyone the way he felt about her, and it almost scared him.
He would never forget how he had met her. She had been a punk girl, hard and tough, who had hung out with one of the few biker gangs in Angel Grove. They had trashed Ernie's Beach Club when it was just opening up, and she had watched. Later he had found out her reasons, that no one else would be her friends. He had become her friend. ..and more.
Their relationship had grown and changed over the years, from friends to boyfriend and girlfriend to . ..his thoughts faltered. Just what did she want, he wondered.
"Jason," she opened the door almost before he got there, and from the warmth of her smile, he felt many of his doubts washing away. "I'm glad you came."
"Hi, Emily," she had grown even more beautiful since then. They had survived the Countdown nicely, fighting side by side. He had started teaching her karate after they had started dating, and now she was a black belt as well. There was a confidence and a strength in her that came from his training, and he hoped from their relationship. "You wanted to see me?"
She nodded, gesturing him in. More relief filled him when he saw there was no one else in the apartment. "Jason. ..," her voice shook just a little, and he turned to look at her. "Jason. ..we've been going out for five years now."
"Yes," he nodded slowly. "And I've enjoyed every moment of it."
Emily nodded, hurrying over to her stereo. "I know this is a little silly, but I was going through some of my old tapes this morning, and I found something that expresses what I'm thinking about our relationship just perfectly. I'd like to play it for you."
This really wasn't what he'd been expecting, but he didn't say no. He didn't say anything as she turned on the stereo quietly, and soft, melodic strains began to float through the air of the apartment, and she looked at him with a hope in her eyes.
Just girl to boy
I'd like to share this
Thought with you
Our love's a joy
Two one's have made
Inseparable two
Last night my heart
Spoke to me
And it said
You've found that lover
Friend
So now I've finally
Got the courage
Just to ask you baby ooh
Will you, will you
Will you marry me boy
Will you, will you
Will you marry me
Will you, will you
Will you marry me boy
Will you, will
Will you, will you, will you
Come on baby now
I lay awake
So full with hope
Of things to come
For heaven's sake
I pray I'm not the only one
I never dreamed
I'd be so bold
I'm standing here,
My heart's been sold
So now I've finally
Got the courage
Just to ask you baby ooh
Think of love as wings
Not a ball and chain
And your fear
Of things
Unnecessary
I only want
To share your name
Share your name
Last night my heart
Spoke to me
And it said
You've found that lover
Friend
So now I've finally
Got the courage
Just to ask you baby ooh
Maybe Sunday
Come on Monday
Baby any time this week
Get an old house
Find a back yard
Buy some flowers
Down street
Tell your mother
Tell your father
Don't tell anyone at all
All we need is
Just the two of us
And ooh. .
Jason's eyes widened in shock as the import of it washed over him. He'd never thought. . .but even as he realized, he knew that he could never, would never be with anyone else. Emily was staring at him, her eyes wide and full of hope. ..and in her hands there was a ring.
"Yes," he said softly, reaching into his pocket for something he'd been keeping there constantly for the last year. "If you'll marry me."
Emily smiled. "Yes. I will."
