"Which way did Kim say to go?" he asked out loud. As he looked at all the signs, he heard a familiar voice from behind her. "Rocky! ROCKY!"
Wait a minute, I know that voice! Rocky spun around and found himself face to face with none other than the former pink ranger, Kimberly Anne Harte.
"Kim!" he exclaimed as she threw her arms around him in a giant bear hug. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be training?"
"I'm here to pick you up, silly! Besides, they gave me a couple hours to relax." she said as she smiled up at him. She looked down at the bag in his hand and frowned. "Is that all you brought?"
"I'm only staying for a week. It's enough time to watch you in the games and them take you home." he explained to her. As he finished, she looked down, unable to meet his eyes.
"Rocky, I'm.....I'm not going back. To Angel Grove, at least." she stammered. He looked at her in complete shock.
"But why, Kim? Is it," he leaned closer to her and lowered his voice. "is it because of him?"
Kim sighed as she looked around. "This isn't the place to talk to you about it. I'll talk to you later tonight, during dinner. I have to get back to my training." With that, she picked up his bag and started walking away. Rocky looked her with a concerned look, but quickly followed her.
Later that night, both Rocky and Kim were sitting in a restaurant, waiting for their dinner to come. Rocky looked up at her, remembering their conversation in the airport.
"Why aren't you coming back Kim?" he asked. She looked over at him and set down her water glass.
"Angel Grove isn't a home for me anymore. My parents aren't there, my oldest and dearest friends have moved away and the one's that I do have left are too busy with their 'ranger business' to actually hand around and -" she sighed as she thought about the last reason, "and I don't know what to do about Tommy."
Rocky reached across the table and squeezed her hand. "Kim, you don't have to worry about him anymore!"
She smiled sadly. "I know I don't have to, but I do. There's still unresolved.....tensions between us. And it's because of the letter. Because of me." As tears began to fill her eyes, Rocky slid over to her side of the booth and put an arm around her. As soon as he did, she buried her face in his shirt and began to cry. As they held on to each other, the unexpected happened. They kissed. But as suddenly as their lips met, they pulled away from each other.
"Rocky?" Kim questioned. Rocky sighed and stood up, but Kim quickly pulled him back down. "What was that?"
"I.....I don't know," he admitted, lying through his teeth. Kim pushed his chin up and looked into his eyes.
"Yes you do." she whispered softly. He nodded his head in agreement.
"You're right. I do." was all he said. Silence fell between them as she looked up at Rocky expectantly. He sighed again and turned towards her. "When I first say you, when Aisha, Adam, and I were in the Karate Tournament, I was spellbound by your beauty. But I figured you had a boyfriend, and later I found out I was right. I became good friends with you and Tommy, but sometimes it hurt to see the two of you together. But you were happy with him, and that's what I wanted for you. Then you sent the letter, breaking up with him. Even though I could see how much Tommy was hurt by it, I looked back. You were the one that tried to keep in touch.....you called him.......you wrote to him........you visited him! I thought that maybe someone who would try to keep in touch with you would be someone that you would think about going out with. Maybe someone....."
"Someone like you," she finished, smiling up at him. He nodded, his ears turning a bright red. "Why Rocky, if I didn't know better, I'd say you were blushing!"
Rocky grinned and turned to her. "Me? Blush? What reason do I have for blushing?"
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe because the girl you like is sitting right next to you." she teased. He nodded in agreement.
"I guess that would be a good reason." he confessed. "But I don't really have much of a chance with her, so."
"Who says you don't?" Kim asked, interrupting him. He looked at her in surprise and confusion. "She's not seeing anyone right now, and maybe...maybe she likes you to."
His surprise and confusion turned towards complete astonishment. "But the letter..." She looked away from him, a sad smile crossing her face.
"Rocky, there's never was another guy. He was nothing but a figment of my imagination." she whispered.
"But why did you break up with him if there wasn't anyone else?" he asked curiously. Tears began once again to well up in her eyes, causing him to put his arm back around her shoulders.
"I saw the way that he was looking at Kat. And when I did leave, he never gave me any signs that he still cared. Nothing. Not any kind of a phone call, or ever a freakin' letter!" she explained, her anger coming out full force. "He didn't try to keep in touch with me, not ever when I sent the letter. He practically ignored me when I came back to visit, and......it hurt." Tears once again began to flow, but this time showing how hurt she had been. Rocky hugged her as she calmed herself down. "But now it's time for me to move past that. The feelings I had for him have changed, and I don't love him like I used to. And I know that I never will. But as for someone else..." she trailed off, looked up at Rocky, her eyes full of hope.
"Do you really like me, or are you just saying that because I said that I had feelings for you?" he asked, praying that she really did.
She looked up at him, her smile full of love. "I like you Rocky. A lot. And I want things to work out between us because, because you mean so much to me. You kept in touch with me when no one would, and you gave me a shoulder to lean on. And all this has made me realize how much I care for you. And that," her voice lowered to a whisper, causing him to strain to hear her. "that I have feelings for you that I can't explain."
The two of them embraced and as they looked
into each others eyes, they leaned forward and kissed. As they kissed,
emotions that surprised them both flowed through them, emotions that would lead
to a deep and loving relationship.
