Note: Pay close attention, because this is the only fanfic of this kind I'm ever going to write.
Timeline: Sometime during Lost Galaxy, although the Galaxy Rangers aren't a part of this story. Directly, anyway.
As Kim stepped through the doorway, she gasped. `No way,' she thought, `A Ranger reunion?' As she looked, she saw that it was indeed exactly what she thought it was. All of her friends were there, along with several others she didn't know.
The first to catch her eye was Tommy Oliver, a former boyfriend of hers. `He still looks every bit as handsome as when I left for Florida,' Kim realized.
Her face fell when she saw a beautiful young woman standing next to Tommy, her hand closed around his. `I knew he would find somebody else,' she thought, `But that's not Kat, is it?'
"Kim!!!" someone exclaimed.
Kim was barely able to recognize the voice, before she was lifted up in a big bear hug. She laughed. "Hey, Rocko," she said.
"Hey yourself," Rocky replied, as he sat her down. He noticed that she looked a little down in the dumps. "What's up?"
"Oh, nothing much really," Kim said. She couldn't keep her eyes from drifting over to where Tommy was standing with his apparent new flame.
Rocky followed her line of sight. "Oh," he said, realizing what was wrong. "That's Erica, Tommy's new girlfriend."
"What happened to him and Kat?" Kim asked.
"From what I heard, they broke up right before Kat left for London," Rocky said, "Tommy says that he met Erica when he was racing, and it was love at first sight. I haven't seen him as alive as he is these days since.... ummm...."
"Since him and I were going out," Kim whispered.
"Yeah," Rocky said, "They've been going out for some time now."
"I'm going to go say hi," Kim said.
"That might not be a good idea, Kim," Rocky replied.
"I'm a big girl, Rocky," Kim said, "It's time for me to face the music, so to speak. I've been meaning to talk to Tommy anyway."
"Well, be careful," Rocky said, "And if he hurts you, in any way, he'll have to answer to me."
"Thanks, Rocky," Kim replied, smiling.
Kim started to head over to Tommy, but she glimpsed a certain couple out of the corner of her eye that made her double take. Billy and Trini were dancing to the music, and looked very cozy.
"About time, huh?" a deep voice rumbled from behind her. "Billy and Trini finally getting together, I mean."
"Hi, Jase," Kim replied, without turning around. "Yeah, it is about time they started dating. When did they start, do you know?" She turned and gave her old friend a hug.
"Yeah, Zack told me," Jason said, "About a month before Terra Venture was finished, Billy went to Switzerland. Him and that Cestria woman broke up, I guess. Anyway, he visited Trini and Zack, and finally admitted to Trini how much he loves her and has always loved her. She admitted her feelings for him too, and they started dating immediately."
"Billy always was a secret romantic," Kim murmured.
"Yeah, I guess so," Jason said, "Have you gone to see Tommy yet?"
Kim shook her head. "I was just about to, when I saw Billy and Trini dancing," she said, "Is he happy with Erica?"
"He looks like he is," Jason replied, "I haven't talked to him in a while, so I haven't formally met Erica yet."
"Well, I'd better go and get this over with," Kim decided.
"Good luck," Jason said.
"Thanks, Jase," Kim replied.
Leaving the first ex-Red Ranger, Kim made her way over to Tommy and Erica, who were chatting with Tanya and Adam. "Hi, Tommy," she murmured once she was close enough.
"Kim!!!" Tommy exclaimed, giving her a hug. Kim caught a glance at Erica, and saw a flash of unmistakable jealousy in the young woman's eyes. Tommy had his back to his girlfriend, so he missed it.
"It's so good to see you again, Kim," Tanya said, giving Kim a hug when Tommy let her go.
"Thanks, Tanya," Kim replied, "You too." She turned to Adam when Tanya let go of the hug. "Hi, Adam. How are you?"
"Good," Adam replied, "What about you?"
"I've been doing good," Kim said. It was then that she faced Erica. "Hi, I'm Kimberly Hart." She extended her hand in friendship, something Tommy was noticeably grateful for.
"Erica Steel," Erica replied, "It's nice to finally meet you, Kimberly. I've heard so much about you from Tommy."
"It's nice to meet you too, Erica," Kim answered.
Just then, a siren went off. "Whoa, talk about deja vu," Tommy said, "If I'm not mistaken, that's the monster alert siren."
"The what?" Erica asked.
"The monster alert siren," Kim repeated for Tommy. "They would turn it on when one of the evil aliens sent down a monster. The new team of Power Rangers must be fighting it."
"Let's go see them in action," Tanya said.
"I don't know," Erica replied, uncertainly.
"Come on, Erica," Tanya begged, "It'll be fun."
"All right," Erica said, reluctantly following the others.
Kim snagged Tommy's arm as he was passing. "Tommy, can I talk to you for a few minutes alone?" she whispered.
Tommy looked at her and sighed. "Yeah, I guess it is time we talked about it, huh?" he said. Kim nodded.
"Coming, sweetheart?" Erica asked.
"I'll join you in a few minutes, Erica," Tommy said, "Go on without me."
"All right, but don't be too long," Erica replied, as Tanya pulled her out of the restaurant.
Kim and Tommy went to a back booth. Since everybody had gone to see the newest fight of the Power Rangers, the place was now empty.
"You wanted to talk, so talk," Tommy said.
"I guess wanted to say that I'm sorry I sent the letter," Kim replied, "That I never should have sent it."
Kim had grabbed Tommy's attention, he would admit. He knew that he wasn't going anywhere until he asked one question and got an answer. "Why, Kim?" he asked, "Why did you do it?"
"I don't know," Kim replied, running her hand through her hair nervously. "I was just so confused about my life, and my future, in Florida. I couldn't think of anything else to do. I didn't quit loving you. I never did."
Tommy closed his eyes. "This would have been good to know before or just after you sent the letter," he murmured, looking away before opening his eyes again.
"I know," Kim whispered, "Can you ever forgive me?"
"I forgave you long ago, Kim," Tommy said, "I only wanted you to be happy. If you were happy giving me up, then so be it. I loved you, Kim. And I'm afraid I mean past tense."
"I thought as much," Kim murmured, "So, about Erica.... is she treating you well?"
Tommy nodded. "Yes, she is," he replied, "She's a great woman, and I'm lucky to have her."
"That's good," Kim said, "You deserve someone that treats you well, and wouldn't break up with you over a mistake."
"I wish things could have been better between us, Kim," Tommy said, "I really do. And I know you'll find someone new. I just hope that nothing happens to that relationship."
"So do I, Tommy," Kim said, "And I guess it can never be the same between us. Can we still be friends?" She held out her hand.
"Always," Tommy replied, grasping her hand.
"Come on, you two," Zack said, as he opened the door of the restaurant. "The fight's half over. You're going to miss it, if you don't hurry."
"We'd better get out there," Tommy said.
"You go on," Kim replied, "I think I'll stay here."
"If that's what you want, Kim," Tommy said.
After Tommy got to his feet and headed out the door, Kim couldn't hold back the tears any longer. She started crying, for a love she had carelessly thrown away, a love that she would never be a part of again. Not in the way she wanted it.
Note from the author: Boy, that ending almost had me crying, and
I'm the
author. For me, this is a one of a kind fanfic. It's the only fanfic
I'll
ever write where Tommy ended up with a woman other than Kim, and also
not
being Kat. From now on, I refuse to write any more. No sequel, and no
fanfics like this, ever. I did this fanfic to show that I'm not
completely
biased towards Tommy/Kim.
